This product is available for pre-order only

Model 1056 single band direct conversion receiver kit. This is your best buy, by far, in a ham band direct conversion receiver kit. It has better audio and filtering than the others, and we supply all of the parts and instructions to let you build it for (or change it to) ANY band of your choice. There are only minor coil and capacitor differences in the simple RF input and oscillator sections of a basic direct-conversion receiver. We give you ALL parts needed to build for your choice of 160, 80, 75, 40, 30, 20, 17, 15, 12 or 10 meters! Try out your own multi-band switching ideas. An ideal receiver for use with a homebrew QRP transmitter! MUTE function included for use with your transmitter. Building skill level: Beginner to intermediate. Must be able to solder, read instructions, and use small hand tools.

  1. Love the new panel template

Posted by Bill on 12th Aug 2014

I think a better place to inject 60hz noise for the first audio test would be at the first audio amp. I heard little or no difference to the audio, with the two pots as directed. Kit completed, works great.

  2. Amateur Science

Very flexible kit for building all sorts of different scientific instruments for collecting data.

  3. Bought another one

I have several of these radios now. I think I'm slowly building one for each band. They are fun to build and so far they have always worked the first time I power them on. The recommended case is a nice size and has room for a cheap rf counter that gives it a digital dial. My only mod is to reverse R4 and R5 to put the tuning in the middle where I can use a bigger knob. Would be a nice beginner kit.

  4. A great kit

Posted by Doc on 31st Mar 2014

Honestly I ordered this kit a year or so ago looking for something to build. When it got here I was pleased to see that all parts (and then some) were included and the board is very nice and professional looking. I am an average kit builder who takes his time and this went together without drama or surprise. Once assembled it works as advertised. I had some fluttering on my audio and found it is related to lack of ground. Once I installed this into a metal enclosure using metal standoff's, problem disappeared. I now have a nice low power 40 meter receiver with good sensitivity: if you've never listened to the bands through a DC receiver, you owe it to yourself to do so, signals are clean and crisp. I am thinking about using this with my Two Tinned Tuna XMTR.

  5. looks good so far

Posted by Tom Larson KC9GOA on 27th Feb 2014

I have only gotten about 20% of the assembly done, but the parts are all there and seem to be of good quality. The solder pads are just right in size to get a good cone shaped solder joint and parts are not crowded on the board. If it works as good as it looks, I would rate it 5 stars.

  6. Bought another for another band

I finally decided on 80 Meter for the first one and rather than try switching bands I just bought a second for 40 Meter. I added one of those cheap frequency counters as a digital dial and it works great.

  7. Wonderful Kit to build

Posted by Edward Vignati on 11th Jan 2014

This kit is easy to build, the high quality PC board flows solder quickly and smoothly. I build a lot of kits and this PC board is the best I have put together and the Face Plate is done in the Ten-Tec tradition of quality. The quality of the sound is Surprisingly quite good. I did make a modification, for the tuning pot. I used a 10 turn pot which adds sensitivity to the tuning process.

The price can't be beat, no torroids to wind, directions are very good and straight forward and if you are experienced in kit building you can tune it by ear. Built, tuned and receiving in a couple of hours.

This is a must have fun affordable kit.

  8. Easy to build.

This was a fun and easy to build kit. The hard part is deciding on a band to tune.

  9. Model 1056 Direct Conversion Receiver

Posted by Wilson Wertz KE5WW on 28th Sep 2013

This kit was very easy to assemble, but the documentation was somewhat difficult to read. The completed receiver works suprisingly well, as have all the Ten Tec kits I have built.

  10. AMAZING performance

Posted by John Marranca, Jr KB2HSH on 7th Dec 2012

I was very skeptical when I bought my first 1056 years ago. As far as small, direct conversion receivers went, I only had a HW-7 and the Ramsey DC RX to compare it to. The Heathkit and the Ramsey were terrible. So, I wasn't expecting much when I bought the Ten-Tec. Man, was I WRONG! This receiver is downright incredible. For the money, you get a rig that's stable, and as sensitive as a big rig. In fact, if I could hear it on my FT-817 (when I owned one), I could hear it on the 1056. It makes a perfect companion for a QRP transmitter, and I've even used it for RTTY reception as well.

The only thing I'd change is the main tuning knob. I installed a larger knob from the PM-1 I used to have.

All in all, it was such a great rig, I bought another one this year!
