I took a trip to Ten Tec before I bought my radio. They made me feel at home and took me into the radio room and let me play with all of their radios, after two hours I made my decision to buy the Eagle. Easy to use and I like the size and looks. The VII is nice but I kept going back to the Eagle for it's receive over the VII...

I got what I expected, great radio, straight forward easy to use and great reports from the other end.

I recently acquired a Ten Tec Eagle. I intend for it to be one of the radios in a SO2R setup.
I find the receiver to be superb and the QSK operation flawless.
I wish there was a separate receive port, and I don't like several desirable features to be available only on a DIN socket.
Nevertheless, this is a beautifully-performing bargain.

Great receiver and noise reduction. Also like the easy to use manual.

Outstanding audio. Very low noise floor when using the RF gain control. I think the RF gain control is the essential part of this radio. By turning the gain back the noise floor is reduced, thus increasing the s/n ratio. Signals become much more intelligible. Excellent sensitivity as well. It's also a good Shortwave receiver, for someone interested in SWL. I highly recommend it.

I have had Ten Tec radios in the past and I am glad to be back, with an Eagle,a nice simple, easy to use radio, for my favorite mode,CW.

Received my package (with tuner, noise blanker, & filter included) on Friday, 12 December. It is certainly the most intuitive modern rig I have owned. Have borrowed some ICOMS (765, etc.) and Yaesu's in the past. Everything operates with the push of a button and the spinning of a dial. If you do not have the hand-eye coordination to work these simple controls, you shouldn't be operating electrical equipment; nor should you be driving on public roads in a motor vehicle!
My Ten Tec rigs have included 544 (1980's), 509 and 574 (2014), all previously owned, and now, this new one. Residing in a restricted area, I operate 99.9% CW. Output power is as advertised--you will need a 25 amp 100% duty cycle power supply, such as an Astron RS-35. The display is legible and contrast/color is variable. Anderson powerpole connectors on the rear, USB port, plus two (2) 12V out auxilary RCA jacks for keyer, etc. However, you don't need a keyer because one is integral. Tuner is auto if needed. Split VFO's and RIT. Pre-amp on rx. Mic compressor adjustable. DSP noise reduction is in there, as is noise blanker. Oh yeah, it has 100 memories. Look at the specs: http://www.rfconcepts.com/TEN-TEC-599AT-Eagle-Specifications.
Here's the most important thing: Once you become comfortable with the interactive settings of the RF/AF gain, Bandwidth and Pass-Band tunings, and AGC, you will use this rig as intended--amazing copy of weak signals, even next to strong ones as in a contest. I find myself cranking down the RF gain alot!!
So, as you can tell, I give this radio high marks, and give Ten Tec kudos for listening to customer requests. BTW, when calling the factory you WILL speak to a human right away.

Extremely sensitive with good dsp and fine filters.
Controls are simple and easy to operate. I particularly like the size and stability. Feels rock solid.

Recently received my new Eagle 599AT Get unit was very surprised how quiet the receiver is. found that the auto tuner works very nicely with my antenna (Cobra Ultra lite Jr.) its a real pleasure to operate and by reading the manual that comes with the unit, you'll be on the air within 30 minutes it's that easy. Great unit for working out in the field. Buy this unit while it is being sold at this low price. Big bang for your buck..

This radio replaces an Omni-D that I have used for several years; I have also owned a Yaesu 817 that I traded several years ago for the Omni-D. Owning a Ten-Tec created very high expectations for any new purchase, and the Eagle meets those high expectations.
The Eagle is large enough to be easy to use and small enough for portable work. I find the controls easy to use, with no frustration at mistakes or hard to find menu items. The receiver is very comfortable to use for many hours at a time even during crowded contests. The AGC and Noise Reducer are particularly important in creating that comfort.
Using this radio is a very pleasant experience.
