  1. SSB un-muffled

Posted by John Abdon on 15th Dec 2014

My Ten-Tec Eagle arrived with a 2.4 kHz mechanical filter in slot F1 and a 600 Hz mechanical filter installed in slot F2. Full counter-clockwise rotation of the Bandwidth POT (control 31) resulted in a BW read-out of 100 Hz. Clock-wise rotation incremented the BW read-out in 25 Hz steps to 2400 Hz. Below 2200 Hz, 'muffling' made SSB signal difficult to read.

After installing a 15 kHz filter in slot F1, moving the 2.4 kHz mechanical filter to slot F2, and installing a 1.8 kHz mechanical filter in slot F3, the BW POT (control 31) changed the BW read-out as follows:

    100 Hz - 4 kHz in 25 Hz steps
    4 - 6 kHz in 1 kHz steps
    6 - 12 kHz in 2 kHz Steps
    15 kHz

The result is a definite improvement in SSB reception. When there are no interfering near-by signals, opening up the BW to 3 kHz results in a rich, full receive. Interfering signals as close as 1.8 kHz can be completely eliminated without causing a 'muffled' signal.

The installation/modification required approximately 15 minutes including the re-configuration menu entries. Everything worked on the first try as per instructions.

  2. 1.8 and 15kHz Review

Posted by James Starkey on 14th Jun 2014

Finally ordered this and another filter for my Eagle I purchased back in 2011. I am glad I did. First off, the turnaround time and service on the order was fantastic. The service department encouraged me to try and install the filters myself, thus saving a $75 fee to install. I am not a electronic knowledge based ham, so I always call be fore opening the top of any radio. That being said, install is easy! I operate mostly phone, so I chose this filter and the 15 kHz filter to compliment the 2.4 filter that came with the radio. Results with all three filters on WAS nets are fantastic. Both filters are worth the money.
