  1. Great microphone - Very resistant to picking up RF - One mod I made.....

Posted by Ron on 7th Feb 2015

I operate the Paragon 585 from my townhome through a manual tuner to an attic wire antenna and good counterpoise. My voice has some bassy components, so I prefer the frequency response of the 705 electret. Dynamic mics typically emphasize the bass components too much for me. But, in this operating environment, electrets pick up RF too easily. Despite my best work to reduce RF on the audio, I had to put the 705 on the shelf for now, and purchased this dynamic mic from Ten Tec. It is well matched to the Paragon and there is NO sign of RF on my signal any more on any band, both on a scope and on-air reports - Great Job Ten Tec! But, with my bassy voice, dynamic mics have never provided the clearest audio. Using my scope I selected an electrolytic cap to place in series with the mic element inside the mic housing to roll off frequencies below 500 Hz. A 3.3 uF cap did the job nicely. I also placed a bit of foam into the back of the housing to fill the hollow space. The monitor function on my Paragon indicated the audio was now very flat and free of the too-bassy sound I typically get with dynamic mics. Then, today, I just had an unsolicited "great audio" report, "easy to understand and just like I was in the same room". No guarantees it will work for others, but now I'm very happy with an RF-resistant dyanmic mic that sounds as good or better than my 705 electret for my voice on my Paragon.

  2. New life to old rig

Seems to work fine for me, connected to my Model 544 Triton IV via an adapter cable.

  3. Good mic for the money.

I bought the 503 mic to replace the aged 500 mic that I had been using on my Omni VI. It's a dynamic mic and takes a lot more gain than the 500, but so far I have had good reports. It is a very nice looking mic and fits nicely in the hand. I think it's a keeper.

  4. Nice Mic

    Works great on my Scout!!

There is nothing like using professionally designed equipment. And it always pays to use that which is designed for the particular equipment that is in operation. Ten Tec does just that. Nothing works on Ten Tec radios as well as Ten Tec microphones, beleive me I've tried.

  6. Additional Microphone

Use this new microphone with my Scout that I have had for 19 years, It has the feel of the old Shure 10-4 mic

  7. Replacement microphone

Microphone is very sturdy and appears to be heavier and better than the one that came with my Argonaut V eventhough the old microphone still works after many years of hard use.

  8. Handheld mike

Posted by Ed on 22nd Nov 2013

My old Ten Tec scout suddenly developed a problem, only on Phone, and only with the antenna closest to the house. The very old and original mike was the problem, and the new four pin replacement solved it all. For only $40 I get good reports.
