Bought it new a few years ago with cw filters and 10-15 meter module. On Field Day I use the other brands - usually current model rigs, all made in distant foreign countries. Then I go home, look at my American designed and built Omni VII, and say to myself "Oh you dear sweet radio. How I love you". What more can I say? How about this? If you could know what I know, then you would buy a Ten-Tec rig.

Toured TT factory this past September and was very impressed! I determined right then I would soon own a Ten Tec. Here it is, Jan 2013, Omni VII on the console! Great rig, love the ease of use and easy to navigate menu system. It all works like a charm. If you haven't tried Ten Tec, do your self a favor...do it!! Now to get an Eagle by year's end.

I have owned the Omni VII for only two months, but have used it for SSB, PSK31, and RTTY thus far. The receiver is the best of all of the rigs I have used. I can dig weak signals out of a pileup with less than optimal antenna situation. The filters and NR are extremely easy to use and are very effective. Setting the radio for PSK31 and RTTY are so simple to do. The antenna tuner works especially well also. I have found nothing about this radio to complain about. The sales staff at the factory store were very helpful in selection of microphone, power supply, and cables.

having problems getting your windows 7 machine to trip the transmitter running digipan? well, me too untill this week. after trying every conceivable combination of mixer parameters and a call to Stan at ten tec, we decided that the problem may lie in my 712 sound card interface cable. i stopped by and interrupted a pow wow between john henry and stan and we checked my 712 (checked ok) and then further discussed my delima. after a short while of "didja try?......yes... john suggested right clicking on the digipan icon and clicking on "run as administrator" . off to the shack and 2 minuites later, im working an mm in the middle of the atlantic with 25 watts into a very outta tune vert antenna. thanks john and stan!!!!

I am a new general license holder but had been a technician for a few years. Since I was familiar with 2m/70cm radio use and all the complicated buttons and drop down menus I was expecting the same when I got a HF radio. Luckily I discovered TenTec before I bought one of the uber complicated Japanese radios. I feel really good about supporting a company that still makes products in the USA plus the radio is really easy and fun to use. The adjustments are simple and straight forward and using it is a joy instead of a part time job. I am really happy with the radio and would not trade it for two of the other brands.

I did a fair amount of research within the price range of the Omni 7, plus knew some Hams who had TEN-TEC radios. I also looked at the specs of radios costing a lot more. I feel after a couple of months of being on the air including using it for field day, that it meets all my expectations and then some. Easy to operate, great recieve, great audio. I feel I got real value, and it's Made in America!

"IF YOU WANT TO BE IN RADIO HEAVEN", by John Occhipinti, K3UR
If you want to be in radio heaven,
you should buy the Ten-Tec Omni VII,
do not be fooled by it's smaller size,
you will be in for a big surprise;
it can transmit all the way to 4K,
no matter what the skeptics have to say,
it rolls off at a smooth 70Hz,
maintaining cleanliness within the frequency skirts;
so if you want to be in radio heaven,
you should buy the Ten-Tec Omni VII,
the menus are all so easy to use,
with the Omni VII you cannot lose;
noise reduction and also running split,
makes the Omni VII a real big hit,
so if you want to be in radio heaven,
you've got to get the Ten-Tec Omni VII.

The Omni VII is an excellent radio, well thought out, easy to operate, with intuitive and straight-forward, single level, feature menu. Very quiet, excellent receiver. Super transmit audio quality. You can adjust audio EQ and add AF compression, but I often receive unsolicited compliments on my transmit audio using good quality headset microphone and the default audio settings.
While this radio manifests a departure from the way other radios work, once you get on to it, it is extremely easy and straight-forward to operate. The single-level menu, and minimal front panel controls, simplify access to all options and settings, allowing quick and easy adjustment of all settings - especially during a contest or when working a weak station under difficult conditions. Some operators used to other radios may balk when first using this radio, but there is a very short, worthwhile learning curve, and the result is worth the effort.
Its RF-Gain control has the widest effective range of any radio I have This makes it much easier to use, similar to the way a band-spread or fine tuning knob makes it easier to tune to a particular frequency. This allows the operator to drill down to the point where signal-to-noise ratio is best - you set AF gain up a bit, and adjust RF-gain downward until the noise drops out, but the desired signal remains. This result is more difficult to accomplish on many other radios, because the range of the RF-Gain control is substantially more narrow and compressed, including many Kenwood rigs, such as my older R-5000 receiver, and my newer TS-590s transceiver which is supposed to have superior receiver specifications, but the Omni VII separate the signal from the noise with greater ease.
I appreciate the receive-only antenna input, because I often use a magnetic loop or other type of receive-only antenna. The multiple DSP roofing and noise reduction filters filters are quiet, effective, and free from unwanted ringing or other digital artifacts.
The radio has a useful single-sweep spectrum analyzer / band scope that graphically displays signals on the band surrounding the operating frequency. This is very useful, especially during a contest - to either search for another station to contact, or to find an unused frequency to use.
The radio can be controlled by various computer software applications, and I prefer the one by produced by N4PY to control the Omni VII, and to control a separate Ten-Tec RX-320D as a second receiver. The software includes a spectrum analyzer, band scope, for either the Omni VII or the RX-320D, which can be used as a "panadapter" of sorts. The RX-320D continuously scans a portion of the band, and the software graphically displays a spectrum analyzer depicting activity on the scanned frequencies. I point and click on this spectrum display to automatically tune the Omni VII. No special equipment or modification of the radio is required to do this, which is very cool and very convenient.
I am very pleased with my purchase and would recommend this radio to a friend.
